As well as working with families experiencing: • Parenting challenges • Divorce • Adoption and kinship care

And helping individuals navigate: • Depression • Grief and loss • Cultural identity issues • Post-migration grief • Life transitions • Self-esteem • Stress and burnout

At the heart of my practice is a deep belief in the power of connection, empowerment, and healing. I feel privileged to walk alongside people from all backgrounds, including racialized, 2SLGBTQIA+, and neurodiverse communities. I am committed to anti-oppressive, inclusive, and identity-affirming care, and I believe that promoting Indigenous mental health means respecting traditional healing practices.

Hi!! My name is Mikayla and I am a Registered Provisional Psychologist at Midnight Sun Wellness. I completed my Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University.

In my therapeutic space, you can speak openly and be heard, notice your experiences and emotions be held with care, and feel free from judgment. I consider myself as a fellow traveller walking alongside you as we explore the topics and themes that matter most to you, and the changes you hope to make in your life. I value the expertise and insights you already have on your experience, knowing that you, and you alone, have lived your unique journey. As we explore avenues that may support your experience, you may notice me highlight opportunities to celebrate and honour your autonomy while supporting your journey towards feeling empowered and living the life you want to live.

In my work with adults (18+), I primarily support individuals navigating: Anxiety, Panic attacks, Trauma, Stress, Low-mood/ Depression, Grief, Life Transitions, Relationships Issues, Uncomfortable Emotions, and Women’s/ People with a Uterus Issues.

I am a 2SLGBTQIA+ friendly and affirming therapist, and I support individuals navigating: Gender Diversity, Transition, Poly/ Non-Monogamous Relationships, Sexuality, and Kink.

I am also a neurodiverse-friendly and affirming therapist who creatively and empathetically supports individuals navigating: ADHD, ASD, BPD, and PMDD.

My work is anchored in a person-centred approach that is strength-based, trauma-informed, and polyvagal-informed. I value collaboration in my work and will tailor my approach based on what is of interest to you. For instance, our work may include solution-focused strategies to reconceptualize your current experience and work towards your goals. Mindfulness-based strategies may also be offered to develop your capacity to rest in a grounded neutral awareness of the present moment and develop avenues to support a healing mind-body connection. These avenues may include: Breathwork, Exploring somatic experiences (acupressure), Visual imagery, Progressive muscle relaxation, and Bilateral stimulation and tapping.

I know that searching for a therapist to support your journey can feel daunting. I encourage you to book consultations with therapists that may seem like a fit to you, including a free 15-minute consult with me! In consults, you’re welcome to ask questions about what therapy with that practitioner is like and get a feel for their individual style so you may test the waters before jumping in.

I value honouring and supporting your healing journey, however I can. If, for whatever reason, you (or I) believe we are not a fit to work together, I may provide thoughtful referrals to alternative clinicians who may be a better fit.
